The Ultimate Winter Guide to Hakuba:

Skiing, Dining, and Alpine Charm

Welcome to Hakuba

Renowned for its world-class powder, breathtaking alpine views, and vibrant village life, Hakuba stands as Asia’s premier winter destination. If you are looking for the perfect base that combines seamless mountain access with exceptional comfort, look no further than Hakuba Shakespeare Hotel.

Your Alpine Retreat

Combining classic European charm with warm Japanese hospitality, our hotel is your ultimate alpine sanctuary. We are located just minutes away from ten of Hakuba’s renowned ski resorts, as well as its vibrant nightlife and shopping hubs. Whether you are travelling solo, as a couple, or with family, our range of rooms offers a comfortable space to unwind after a day in the snow.

Dining Down the Hall

One of the biggest perks of staying with us is having a variety of dining options right down the hall, saving you from trekking out into the freezing cold after a long day on the slopes. We offer six on-site restaurants, ranging from Asian flavours to Italian cuisine, depending on your cravings.

At Kin Kitchen, you can kickstart your morning with an Asian and Continental breakfast buffet, or return later to enjoy a flavourful Southeast Asian à la carte and set menu for lunch and dinner. If you are craving Western comfort food, Pietro specializes in classic Italian cuisine, serving up artisanal pizzas and handmade pastas. It is the perfect, relaxed setting to unwind with a curated selection of wines and cocktails while sharing stories of your day on the mountain.

Direct Mountain Access

When you are ready to hit the snow, navigating the valley from our doors is incredibly straightforward. Hakuba Valley boasts 10 distinct ski resorts catering to all skill levels. You can challenge yourself on the long Olympic runs of Happo-One, explore the excellent terrain parks of the interlinked Goryu and Hakuba 47 resorts, or take in the stunning mountain-top observation deck at Iwatake. The main shuttle stop is conveniently situated just across the street, making it easy to explore Hakuba’s breathtaking landscapes.

Cultural Day Trips

If you feel like taking a rest day from skiing, there are plenty of day trips and cultural excursions worth visiting when you stay with us. You can take a scenic journey to the famous Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park to witness wild Japanese macaques soaking peacefully in natural hot springs. Alternatively, you can head out to explore the historic wooden architecture of Matsumoto Castle, or simply spend your afternoon unwinding in one of Hakuba’s many soothing, mineral-rich local onsens.

Getting to Shakespeare Hotel

Getting to us from Japan’s major travel hubs is a seamless journey. From Tokyo, you can take the Hokuriku Shinkansen (Bullet Train) to Nagano Station in just 90 minutes, then catch the direct Alpico Express Bus straight to the Hakuba Base Camp. If you are traveling from Osaka or Nagoya, the JR Shinano Express Train will take you directly to Nagano or Matsumoto, where you can easily transfer to local express buses heading into the valley.
